Bushcraft Weekend

Living like a nature people, we have drifted far from it in the twenty-first century. This weekend you will learn again how to live in, of and with nature. You will learn skills that allow you to use resources from nature to make a stay or trip as enjoyable as possible. You will sleep in a homemade shelter. Cooking requires fire. How do you make fire when there is no lighter or match nearby? From natural materials you will learn to make a grill or tripod. There you can prepare food or bring a kettle of water to a boil for a nice cup of coffee or tea. In the forest we will look for edible plants and fruits to incorporate into our meals. And in all this, let's not forget a very important aspect: you go offline. Totally. Only then will you really escape contemporary, hurried life for a while and get back to your basics completely. Put on clothes that can get dirty and come play outdoors with us this weekend!

The theme of this Unplugged Weekend is Basic Bushcraft. In an approachable way you will learn the basic techniques of bushcrafting. They are going to help you if you end up in the middle of nature or go wild camping. Exciting? Definitely! Instructive? Big YES! You will learn in these three days what types of shelters there are, how to handle a knife and axe, fire techniques, woodcraft, navigating using nature, water techniques and also recognize edible plants and fruits. Day 1
Today you are welcome at 14:00 at our campfirespot in Strijbeek. First, the program of this intensive weekend will be explained. Yes, we know you're eager, but safety and solid information about what to expect is really part of it. Ok, finished off, outdoor playtime starts NOW! You start by making your sleeping arrangements, because for the rest of the weekend you will sleep under your (emergency) shelter.

Day 2
We are extremely curious to know how your night in the "wilderness" went! I mean, let's face it, it's not every day you sleep in an (emergency) shelter. But we can imagine it was an adventurous experience.

After a delicious campfire breakfast, warming yourself by the fire or who knows even taking a dip in the water, you will be fully recharged and ready for the day. Today there are some essential basic skills that you will master. For example, how to make fire with different types of tinder. You will learn how to choose the perfect tinder and how to create a fiery show with a spark. And that's not all! You'll also get to work cutting wood shavings, wielding knife and axe like a true adventurer, and the basic skills of outdoor cooking. Who knows, maybe you'll become the master chef of the campfire!

And you know what the great thing is? If there is some time left, you even get the opportunity to completely unwind and take time for yourself. Because unwind is the key word during these special days. Get away from all the hustle and bustle and just enjoy the peace and beauty of nature around you.

In the evening, we gather again around the campfire. The dancing flames and crackling wood create a magical atmosphere as we share stories, laugh and enjoy each other's company. 

Day 3
Good morning, also awakened by curious animals? Nothing better than to wake up so unplugged! The fire is already lit, the coffee is ready, now first breakfast. There is a lot on the program today. We start with a short hike of 5 to 8 kilometers. Along the way you will look for edible plants and fruits, so we have something to eat for lunch. In addition, you will learn more ins & outs of bushcraft, you can then head out with confidence. No outdoor adventure without the right skills. Hopefully you've learned a lot these past few days and enjoyed it just like we did. In any case, we thought it was super cool with you!'

We have two locations where we have adventures. 

Location Camping Schouteveld
In the area between Gilze-Chaam-Ulvenhout and Alphen are the Chaam and Ulvenhout woods. The Alphen mountains and the Generaalsbossen are also part of this. Together they form a wonderful combination of ancient forests, marshy meadows, streams and moors with fens. Magnificent views are guaranteed and with a little luck we will encounter grazing deer at dusk.

Location Strijbeek
Somewhere in the Strijbeek woods, bordering Belgium, is a private property where we may build our basecamp Unplugged Outdoor. It is a beautiful terrain surrounded by idyllic fens, pine forests and heathland. There is NO electricity or WiFi. So you really go back to basics. By the way, there is a neat toilet building and if you want to wake up refreshed, jump in the lake.
