Hike & Survival Weekend

Follow in the footsteps of the smugglers of old, because where there is a border there can be smuggling. We take you on an adventurous journey through the Chaamse woods and the Strijbeek heath. Away from civilization, we hike through pine forests, over moors and past fens. This nature reserve is a real surprise. But let's reflect on the past - what was actually smuggled across this natural border?

In this crazy weekend you will learn the art of shelter building and fire making, cooking on an outdoor fire and navigating with map, compass and GPS. We will sleep under a tarp or in your own tent. Hiking and bushcrafting will give you an unmistakable feeling and bring you back to basics. Your own nature.

The theme of this Unplugged Weekend is Hike & Bushcraft. Hike & Bushcraft is great for the adventurous hiker who likes to be outside all day and loves the free feeling of sleeping in nature. For this weekend we ask you to bring all your devices with us. This means nature is at maximum intensity and you can fully immerse yourself in the adventure without any distractions; devices OFF and nature ON. This will be a weekend where you not only discover your way in nature, but also the way to inner peace and a complete unplugged experience.

Day 1
Welcome, adventurer! From 13:00 you are welcome in beautiful Chaam. We start the afternoon with an introduction, where we get to know each other and the program for this weekend is explained.

This afternoon is devoted to moving to our first bivouac site, setting up a tarp, where you will have the opportunity to experiment with different methods. Because believe it or not, there are countless ways to set up a tarp. This is an essential skill to master, as tomorrow we break camp and move toward a different terrain.

After all the hard work and puzzling with the tarp, there will be a delicious meal waiting for you prepared on the campfire. At the campfire tonight, we will linger to further meet your fellow adventurers. The magic of the campfire creates a special atmosphere where laughter and serious conversation go hand in hand. It is an opportunity to share stories, exchange experiences and make memories for life.

Day 2
We are extremely curious to know how your night in the "wilderness" went! I mean, let's face it, it's not every day you sleep in an (emergency) shelter. But we can imagine it was an adventurous experience.

Today we moved to a different terrain through an approximately 20 kilometer hike. You will learn the basics skills on how to prepare yourself for a trekking or hiking vacation.Meanwhile, we also teach bushcraft skills for survival. Making a good fire is of course crucial, so you will definitely learn that. We will also, if it is responsible (code 1), cook outside on the fire and finish with a crackling campfire. At night you'll sleep under a tarp or under the stars. The last option is the best, trust us on this one.

Day 3
Good morning, did everyone sleep wonderfully unplugged? Yes, it's still early, but there's a lot on the schedule today. Chop-chop, get to work! Forest baths (literally and figuratively) for those who dare, a good breakfast and then get to work. Today you will learn the last tricks of the bushcraft trade and we are curious to see what your sense of orientation is like. After all the toil a well-deserved lunch will be waiting and we will close this last day around 15:00. Hopefully you enjoyed it as much as we did. Tired, but mentally fulfilled and completely recharged we go into the new week.

Location Strijbeek
Somewhere in the Strijbeek woods, bordering Belgium, is a private property where we may build our basecamp Unplugged Outdoor. It is a beautiful terrain surrounded by idyllic fens, pine forests and heathland. There is NO electricity or WiFi. So you really go back to basics. By the way, there is a neat toilet building and if you want to wake up refreshed, jump in the lake.
