Navigation Weekend

Navigating with map and compass, old-fashioned!!!? It may sound that way, but the opposite is true. Just how nice it is to turn off all those electronics and gadgets in this day and age. Walking offline through the beautiful pine forests, across moors and along fens with map and compass. In this way you and the landscape become one and you work together to reach your goal.

In the Netherlands, we actually have 3G or even 4G everywhere and your smartphone indicates, "In 300 meters, turn right. But did you know that if you walk in the mountains, your range is often far away? Or suppose everything is down or the technology doesn't work? Will you still get to your destination? Actually, at that moment we are completely lost. We want to teach you how to find your way. But not only that. You learn to live in and with nature and follow in the footsteps of the smugglers of old. We are near the border with Belgium, where there used to be a lot of illegal traffic.

During this weekend you will be pampered with delicious food prepared on an outdoor fire. You get a lot of personal attention and space for yourself. Because we deliberately keep the groups small. In the evening you can enjoy the stories together around a crackling campfire and sleep under the stars. Away from the hustle and bustle of home, work, your to do list and all your digital stimuli. 

Day 1

Hey there, adventurer! Today is your day to enter the world of navigation. You're welcome to our amazing campfire spot in enchanting Strijbeek, where the magic of the outdoors awaits you. At 14:00 we kick off with a warm welcome and get to know each other. But that's not all of course! We're going to immerse you in the basics of navigation, because let's face it, it may seem simple, but nothing could be further from the truth. We'll show you that there's more to it than you ever imagined.

This afternoon is dedicated to acquiring essential basics of navigation. You are going to learn things about the compass, map reading, landmarks and much more. We will teach you the tricks of the trade, so that after this weekend you can confidently head out into the wilderness and never get lost again.So get ready for an afternoon of adventure, new insights and a healthy dose of challenge. We are sure you will discover that navigation is a true art that opens doors to undiscovered worlds.Together we will unravel the secrets of navigation. This will be a weekend where you will lift your inner adventurer to new heights. So get ready to take your compass in hand, study your map and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of navigation.

Day 2
Today it is time to enjoy the outdoors. It's outdoor playtime, but in the broadest sense of the word. We begin with a brief review of what you learned yesterday so that everything is still fresh in your mind. Then we finally put the theory into practice with an adventurous trip of about 15 kilometers through the beautiful Chaamse woods and the vast Strijbeekse heath. You will also learn some basic survival skills. Making a good fire is of course crucial, so you will definitely learn that. We will also cook outside on the fire and end the day at a crackling campfire. At night you'll sleep in your own tent, under a tarp or under the stars. The last option is the best, trust us on this one.

Day 3
Good morning, did everyone sleep wonderfully unplugged? Yes, it's still early, but there's a lot on the schedule today. Chop-chop, get to work! First a good breakfast, a refreshing swim and then to work. Today we're going on another hike to master the final touches of navigation. We are going to make a ford using the compass. After all the toil, a well-deserved lunch will be waiting and we will conclude this day around 3 pm. Hopefully you enjoyed it as much as we did. Tired, but mentally fulfilled and completely recharged, we go into the new week.

Unplugged Outdoor moves mainly in the Ulvenhout woods and Strijbeek heath. This border area used to be very popular with smugglers. The Strijbeekse heath is a jewel of North Brabant. In August it turns completely purple, but every season has something special here.

Location Strijbeek
Somewhere in the Strijbeek woods, bordering Belgium, is a private terrain where we may build our basecamp Unplugged Outdoor. It is a beautiful terrain surrounded by idyllic fens, pine forests and heathland. There is NO electricity or WiFi. So you really go back to basics. By the way, there is a neat toilet building and if you want to wake up refreshed, jump in the lake.
