Parent Child Weekend

For a serious outdoor experience, you really don't have to travel far. In our own Netherlands the adventure is there for the taking. Join us on an exploration in the beautiful forests of Chaam and Ulvenhout. During the Unplugged Parent-Child Weekend, which takes place completely outdoors, you will learn the basic survival skills: making fire with a firesteel, building a shelter from natural materials, purifying water, navigating with map and compass and outdoor cooking. After the weekend, you'll be able to do all of these. Cool! We sleep at the Schouteveld campsite in a tent, in your self-made shelter or under the stars. A weekend full of real adventure, you are up for that challenge, aren't you?

During this Unplugged Weekend, as the name suggests, parent and child take center stage. When was the last time you did something really cool together? When did you have genuine attention and time for that? Too often we, parents and children, are in a rat race. Work, school, sports, obligations. Always busy and 'relaxation' we look for behind the scenes with apps, games, series, social media, TV. Unplugged Outdoor does things differently. We encourage you to actually be offline and take an interest in each other again. Outside in nature, where the distractions of daily life are just as far away. All your devices are in airplane mode during the activities or, even better, just completely off those things! Get back in touch with yourself, with each other and with nature. Back to basics to recharge your battery instead of your phone's. This will be an amazing nature experience. A weekend where you will push your limits and where you will think back together (!).

Day 1
Welcome, adventurer! Starting at 2:00 pm, you are welcome to join us at our enchanting campfire spot on the beautiful grounds of Schouteveld Campground. In a playful way we will get to know each other this afternoon. Then it's time to roll up your sleeves: the first basic survival skills are on the menu. One of them is making a good fire, so we can cook outside and build a perfect campfire for when it gets dark in the evening. By the way, did you know that this area used to be home to smugglers who built emergency shelters to spend the night in? This whole weekend we will take you back in time to the period when these smugglers were active. Who knows, some of them may even still be around. This weekend you will sleep in your homemade shelter or in your own tent. If it is not raining (very hard) you can also sleep under the stars. Take it from us: if you can, do it. It's a magical nature experience that you live together!

Day 2
Good morning! What animal sounds did you hear last night? And did you see all those stars? Did anyone sleep restlessly because of the exciting stories by the campfire last night? Today we continue full of energy, because there is still much to learn about surviving in nature. And you know, we have heard that there are smugglers around. What should we do? Are we going to look for them? Maybe they left contraband behind? We finish this day around the crackling campfire, where we can unwind. It was an exciting day and a day full of AVONTURES. But now sleep well, on to tomorrow!  

Day 3
Good morning, did everyone sleep wonderfully UNPLUGGED? Yes, it's still early, but there's a lot on the schedule today. Chop-chop, get to work! There are more bushcraft skills to learn. Purifying water, navigating without Google Maps (yes, it exists!). Three days full of discoveries, sociability and above all quality time with and for each other. Actually, this unique weekend goes by way too fast!

We have two locations where we have adventures. 

Location Camping Schouteveld
In the area between Gilze-Chaam-Ulvenhout and Alphen are the Chaam and Ulvenhout woods. The Alphen mountains and the Generaalsbossen are also part of this. Together they form a wonderful combination of ancient forests, marshy meadows, streams and moors with fens. Magnificent views are guaranteed and with a little luck we will encounter grazing deer at dusk.
