When was the last time you were truly alone When did you give yourself the space to reflect on issues you may have been struggling with for some time? Or really connected with yourself and nature? Without all the (digital) stimuli from home, work, your agenda and daily life.
During the Unplugged Solo Trip you will learn the basic bushcraft skills. You will put these skills into practice the following days, 24 hours solo and together with the instructor. Excited? Definitely! Instructive? BIG YES! Because being solo in the middle of the woods for 24 hours is not something that happens every day. You will experience this adventure in the French Ardennes. Nature here is pristine, diverse and rich. This is where you get to immerse yourself for a weekend.
With limited resources, you will head into the bush with your private instructor. During these 3 days you will trek together through the wilderness of the French Ardennes. You will learn to live more simply. The result: a happier you!
During the intake interview we try to find out why you want to experience an Unplugged Solo Trip and why exactly at this time? With this input we plan the weekend and give you advice in advance on what you need to take into account.
A weekend of unwinding and disconnecting yourself from the daily routine. It will hopefully give you new insights and perspectives. But you will also learn to have a fantastic adventure with limited resources that you will think back on often!
Hopefully you are an early bird because we expect you at 09.00 at CS Breda. Then you will drive with your instructor to the French Ardennes. During the 3-hour drive, you and your instructor will get to know each other and we will tell you what to expect in the coming days.
After a short break, we'll chop-chop, get down to business! You'll start with an orientation lesson; navigating with map, compass and natural means. After you've mastered the basics of navigation, we'll put what you've learned into practice and walk toward our bivouac location. We'll work onthe skills that allow you to use resources from nature to still make a stay as enjoyable as possible. Think about making a shelter, making fire, finding and purifying water. All Unplugged Style of course!
In the evening by the campfire, calm arises and we slow down. We eat something and you get an explanation about the next day: your solo!
Good morning, did you sleep wonderfully unplugged? First a good breakfast and then get to work navigating; during your solo you will be given a GPS system. Good to know how it works, of course! When the use of the GPS is clear, the instructor will check your equipment. Only necessary equipment will be taken along. During your solo you will hand in all devices to your instructor - Devices OFF, nature ON - You will receive a coordinate where you move to and set up your bivouac in a radius of max. 25 meters. You will apply the bushcraft skills learned at this location and you will remain at this location until the instructor picks you up the next morning.
Wondering how the solo went, the instructor walks into your bivouac. How did you experience it? Did you unwind? Did you get answers to your issue(s)? Did it create space for new creativity? Or was it just a beautiful adventure? Julie talk about this together and then slowly break down the bivouac site. You leave it as if no one had ever been there. Hopefully you learned a lot and are an experience richer. We return to the car, eat some more food and it is time to return to the Netherlands.

I love survival, the Great Outdoors and quasi survival in nature. Bushcraft is a good example of that. Nothing is more fun than surviving primitively outdoors in a forest. It clears your head and you gain respect for nature. Normally everything goes by like an express train, our schedules are often too full and status seems to become more and more important. To help you escape this, I would like to be in nature, together with you.
During my time in the Ministry of Defense, I was already prepared for survival skills and to lead groups. Meanwhile, I am a certified Hike & Survival instructor and Hiking & Backpacking Guide and I master several techniques for outdoor & bushcraft.
The French Ardennes refer to the part of the Ardennes located in France. It is a landscape characterized mainly by green hills, extensive forests and meandering rivers. In the French Ardennes, it is mainly the river Meuse that defines the landscape. Most of the French part around the Ardennes was formed by this river. The French Ardennes is a rural area with mostly small villages and farms. At times it seems as if time has stood still. The French Ardennes are located in the Ardennes department of the same name. The French Ardennes form a low mountain range. They are counted with the adjacent part in Belgium as the Low Ardennes because their peaks are lower than the more northeastern hills in the Ardennes, the High Ardennes. The French Ardennes do not reach higher than about 500 meters and its northern part in particular is densely forested.
