Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Alsace, where wine and culinary delights come together in an unforgettable wine tour. Are you a wine lover who also loves delicious wines and good food? Then we have the perfect activity for you: the wine walking tour of enchanting Alsace!
Alsace is not just a region of vineyards and medieval charm; it is a treasure chest of flavors and traditions. As you stroll along endless vineyards and explore picturesque villages with their characteristic houses, you will immerse yourself in the undeniable culinary and gastronomic richness of this region. But that's not all! As icing on the cake, we will take you to authentic craftsman hotels, where you will have the chance to relax and enjoy the pure Burgundian life.
However, it is important to realize that this trip is not just about "enjoyment. In order to taste all those delights, you must first make a little effort. After all, you ended up in the mountains for a reason! Making altimeters is part of the experience, and that is precisely what makes it so fascinating and challenging. In fact, Alsace offers hikers an abundance of opportunities to experience the natural beauty of the area, from tranquil valleys to challenging mountain trails. So, prepare for a wine hiking trip full of adventure, where the reward for all your efforts comes in the form of delectable flavors and unforgettable memories!
From 3 p.m. you are welcome to Ribeauvillé, one of the most beautiful villages in France! We check in at our hotel in the center of this beautiful village, where you can freshen up before exploring. At 5 p.m., we'll toast to the weekend together with some local wines and delicacies from the region. We will then head to a local restaurant together to enjoy the culinary delights of Alsace, accompanied of course by an appropriate local wine! Be careful not to drink too much, because tomorrow a beautiful but challenging hike is scheduled.
Up early for a brisk hike today! After a nice breakfast at the accommodation, we check that everyone has enough water for the trip. We put on our hiking boots and hit the trail. Today's route is about 15 km long and includes about 740 meters of ascent and 520 meters of descent. The first stretch is an immediate steep climb, from 250 meters to 620 meters in just 3 km. Along the way, we visit several beautiful castles and enjoy breathtaking views of the coniferous and deciduous forests. Our final destination is the quiet village of Thannenkirch where we spend the night in a unique family hotel and can enjoy the delicious gastronomy of Alsace. But not before we have dined together and recharged ourselves for the next day, where we will be back on the road at 09:00 fresh and fruity!
We start the day with a delicious breakfast ready for you from 07:30. We set off in the direction of the medieval village of Riquewihr for a tough 16 km hike. We ascend some 770 meters and descend 940 meters. The beginning of the hike is immediately quite a climb: within 3 km we go from 480 meters to 880 meters altitude. After about 8 km, a second climb awaits us. We walk through the beautiful forests of the Vosges low mountain range and end among the vineyards of Riquewihr at the home of a family that has been producing wine since 1574. We are given a tour and taste their exquisite wines. Our accommodation for the night is a historic building from the 16th century in the heart of Riquewihr. Each room has its own style and personality. In the evening we dine together in one of Alsace's many wine taverns. Then it is time to rest and prepare for the next day.
Today it is already time to say goodbye. But before we do, we're going to enjoy some breakfast. Through the beautiful vineyards we walk back to the village of Ribeauville, where our wine walk really ends. The hike is only about 5 km long, so a breeze for us after two days of plenty of hiking! At the cars we say goodbye to each other. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Au revoir!
Hello, I am Jimmy and I will be your guide during the Wine Walk in the beautiful Vosges Mountains. I love survival, enjoy the Great Outdoors and quasi survival in nature. Bushcraft is a good example of that. There is nothing more fun than surviving outdoors in a forest with primitive means. It clears your head and you gain respect for nature. The Netherlands has beautiful nature spots, but not the vast rugged areas like in France or Norway where you can wander for days. Normally everything goes by like an express train and our agenda is often too full, while status seems to become more and more important. To help you escape from this hectic pace, I would like to get busy in nature, together with you.
During my time in the Department of Defense, I was prepared for survival skills and group leadership. I am now certified as a Hike & Survival Instructor and Hiking & Backpacking Guide and master several techniques for outdoor & bushcraft. Because of my many travels and experiences in the hospitality industry I do not lack organizational skills, perseverance and guts. Do you also love a new adventure and hospitality? Then you have come to the right place and I would love to go on the road with you!
Weather or no weather, I can basically always be found outside. Whether I'm in the woods or in the mountains, I get a lot of energy from both. Exercise and getting out from behind your screen is something everyone should do more often. So my motto is to "unplug" and "play outside" in the great outdoors as often as possible. Hi, I'm Gerty, wilderness guide and a real Mountain Girl, nice to meet you.
No Dutch Ovens and campfires for me this week. I'll show you the gastronomic delights of Alsace as we trek through the beautiful vineyards and mountains. And yes, there are some hefty climbs on the program too, but I'll be happy to guide you through them!
Alsace is a former region in extreme northeastern France, now part of the new Grand Est region after the administrative redivision of France. To the east, Alsace borders Germany, where the Rhine lowlands are located. Historically, Alsace forms the border between the two main Western European cultures: French and German. The official language is French, but many place names (and local food!) make you feel like you are in Germany, which makes the region special. Beautiful old villages like Riquewihr, Ribeauville and Munster are in some places reminiscent of the most beautiful German half-timbered villages.
To the west, the medium-high mountain range of the Vosges Mountains forms the border with the Lorraine region. Throughout its history, Alsace has alternately been in French and German hands. The region is known for its renowned French wines, including Riesling and Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. In addition to its wines, the region also offers typical regional dishes. The Vosges Mountains are a beautiful natural area in which you can take many wonderful walks.
