On an adventure in Greece!

To many, Greece will be known only for its beach vacations. But in northwestern Greece, the country looks very different. In fact, in the mountains you can have plenty of adventure in nature! And that is exactly what we are going to do. We are going to hike in the mountains and enjoy all the beauty that Greece has to offer. Hiking in Greece is something that you as an adventurer and outdoor enthusiast should really tick off your list. But even if you are less adventurous in daily life and are looking to go back to the roots (without devices), this is the trip for you. Will you join us?

History of Greece

Greece is officially called the Hellenic Republic and is located in southeastern Europe. Greece consists of the southernmost part of the Balkan Peninsula as well as a large number of islands. These islands make up about 20% of the total land area. Neighboring countries to Greece are Turkey, Bulgaria, northern Macedonia and Albania.

Athens is the capital of Greece. In Athens you can still see very much of the rich history of Greece. Its history is also what Greece is so well known for. Greece played a very prominent role in classical antiquity. Democracy was established in Greece, a form of government that is still practiced in many countries today.

The flora and fauna of Greece

A special fact about Greek nature is that Greece has against 5,000 species of tall plants. This is a very high number relative to the land area. The reason for this is the fact that Greece's southern location kept it reasonably out of harm's way from the all-destroying ice masses during the ice ages. This allowed plant species in Greece to maintain themselves reasonably well.

The variation of climate in Greece is great. Greece has a Mediterranean climate, but there is always snow on Mount Olympus, for example. Greece also has a wide variation in the amount of rain that falls annually in each region.

The special nature of Greece combined with the mountainous landscape in northern Greece makes it a wonderful destination for us to organize an adventure trip to. Read more about all our trips on this page
